I have been writing lyrics for just a couple of years, and two of my songs have been picked up by AR execs during online song pitch events. Just that amount of encouragement keeps me motivated to write more lyrics in hopes of getting better at my craft. I was not blessed to be a performing artist but in no way has that deterred me from pursuing my dreams to produce quality songs.
Having the ability to tell a story through my lyrics and then provide a basic melody to give to a recording studio is how I arrive at producing a radio-quality demo. I work with a well-known recording studio engineer and utilize session vocalists when necessary.
From time to time I enlist the vocal talents of students at a prestigious Tennessee music and voice school to assist in creating my song demos.
Although I have been going the lyric-writing road by myself thus far, I am very open to working with other songwriters who want to co-write. Like many songwriters, I write about love, life and loss. Some songs are sad and some songs are humorous.
Georgia and Alabama have been home for all of my life and that has allowed me to garner a lot of material to write about as I draw from experiences and observations about living life the country.
As a graduate of Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, AL, some of you may know that Randy Owen, legendary front man for the group Alabama, is a JSU alumnus. Another pair of JSU alumni, Jamey Johnson and Riley Green, continue to make their march toward superstardom in Country music. I believe your past and present environments influence heavily as to what type of songs you write about. My influences have always come from the country, country/rock and classic rock genres. Too many artists to mention.
Lastly, my goal is to get just one charted hit out of this songwriting hobby. If I can do that, then my journey is complete.
